I Heart Faces – Water

My boys are WATER BABIES!  They have always loved the bath, even in their infant tub.  Now, at 18 months, we can say, “let’s go take a bubble bath!”  They head up the stairs.

One of our favorite places is the SPLASH PAD!  The boys LOVE it and so do we, it makes them sleep REALLY well.

Here is a picture I took of Fynn last month at the SPLASH PAD that I just love.  He gets so excited!

Chiropractic Babies

Our boys are PURE chiropractic babies!  They have been getting adjusted since birth and it has truly helped with their overall health as well as Sutton’s hip dysplasia.  They are 18 months old and have only had ONE very MINOR cold with a 100 degree temperature for only a day.  I give all the credit to chiropractic and of course GOD.  Thankfully we have a chiropractor for a Daddy.

Once every couple of weeks I take the boys in to get adjusted and they are now at the age where they just walk right up to the adjusting chair and climb in.  They LOVE it! 🙂

Fynn usually jumps in the seat first.

Sutton’s turn!

Sutton getting adjusted on the table and he usually gets his hips checked just to be sure everything is still doing good.

July 19 Part II – 18 Months Old

**I’ve had technical difficulties so this post has taken a few days to get up!

I have 1 1/2 year olds!!!!!  So crazy to think about how fast it has all gone by!

At 18 months old my boys are pretty much AMAZING!  They are sooo adorable, fun, smart, sweet, funny and too many things to capture into one sentence.  They are so smart….or at least we think so.  You show them how to do something once they pick it up.  That might be a bad thing down the road.  They say mama, dada, banana (nana), ball (baw) and Sutton just learned “no” and Fynn learned “dirty.”  They do a LOT of jibber jabber and “twin talk,” which is hysterical to watch.  They get so serious and you can tell one will be telling the other something very important.

Fynn or Fynnie or Fynnie Boy is my sweet, sensitive, calm child.  He has always been a little studious one.  He LOVES books and figuring out objects and spaces and how everything works.  When I make a “fish face” at him he spends the next few minutes REALLY trying hard to figure out how to do it.

He still loves to play with balls….basketballs, soccer balls, bouncy balls, any balls he likes.  He loves to pick one up and say “baw” all loud and proud.

Most of the time he goes RIGHT to sleep when he gets in his crib for nap or bedtime.  He loves to brush his teeth and pick up stuff off the floor to help mommy clean.  Sutton enjoys emptying the ball pit in the game room and Fynn will start putting them back in right away.  He is working on his 2nd molars and just now has started to fuss a bit.  He hasn’t fussed a bit through 18 months of teething!  This boy LOVES cartoons.  It is scary how focused he gets when they are on.  He likes music and will dance with a serious face.  It’s comical from my point of view.  He had become a bit less picky with food….this boy would not TOUCH meat or veggies and was very picky about everything once we went to finger foods.  He has started eating organic all beef hot dogs, meatloaf, strawberries, oranges and more.  He even ate broccoli!

He likes to point and talk but I just wish I could understand what he was trying to tell me.  I can tell him to go pick up something and bring it to me and he will.  He still has the craziest hair!  Those two cowlicks in the back will sure frustrate any hairdresser in the future.  Fynn is the more independent child and does not need a lot of affection, even though we smother him with loving!  He could be content just running around on his own.  He is overall mostly calm yet sometimes he gets a spark and will RUN and RUN and LAUGH!!  And he loves to give “high-fives!”

Sutton or Sutty or Bubba is my passionate child.  He smiles and laughs straight from the gut!  He will do something good like fit a puzzle piece in its spot and will look up at you as if he is saying, “Did you see?”  I am always watching for these looks to give him that reinforcement he needs.

He is definitely more cuddly and affectionate.  He will chase his brother around trying to give him hugs and kisses.  He will OPEN MOUTH kiss too and it’s hysterical because he won’t give just one kiss, he has to give multiple.    He LOVES to turn things over and make a mess!  His favorite thing is to flip the ball pit over and then run around in the balls laughing!

He tends to throw tantrums, which we are working on but this kid is mild compared to some so I won’t complain too much about them.  He too hasn’t fussed much at all in 18 months of teething!  He loves to just chew on his hand or try and bite everything….toys, books, spoons, etc.  Sutton is GREAT at sharing….for the most part!  If his brother does not have a toy like he does, he will pick it up and bring it to him even if Fynn wasn’t looking for it.  He makes sure Fynn has his bear every time Sutton has his mouse.  He loves to walk around the game room and pick up toys and bring them to me with a big grin on his face.  And he loves to bring you SHOES!  He will literally pick each one up and bring it to you.

And this kid is CHATTY!  He will just jibber jabber ALL DAY LONG….in his crib, at breakfast, in the car, before bed.  ALL THE TIME!  He even softly hums when we put him down for bed, as if he hasn’t been able to get out all he is trying to say during the day.  He too loves to dance and really loves to do the “fist pump” especially in the car.  He is sooo goofy he makes us laugh every day.

The boys are on a great schedule now.  We moved to one nap a day a month or so ago.  They wake at about 8/8:30 and I make their breakfast while they talk in their cribs and entertain themselves.  Once I bring them down and we eat breakfast, we will either go run errands or go play or if they are still a little cranky and tired we’ll cuddle up and watch some Sprout.  If we run errands it is kind of limited to only place with double carts or places where our double stroller will fit.  We will also go see Daddy at the chiropractic office and get adjusted!  They eat lunch around noon and then go down for a nap around 12:45/1 and will usually sleep anywhere from 2-3.5 hours.  When they wake from their nap they get a snack and a TINY bit of juice diluted with water.  Then we either run errands (if we didn’t in the morning) or we play, sometimes outside.  We have a sand/water table, bubbles, a lawnmower, sidewalk chalk, etc.  It’s been SO HOT outside we don’t last long out there or we just wait until before bed.  THEY LOVE THE WATER HOSE!!!

We’ve also been going to the splash park and our neighborhood pool.  The neighborhood pool is AWESOME for toddlers because the entry to the water is like a ramp so they can walk and play in the water without a parents having to hold them the entire time.

Life is getting more and more fun with these two.  They are my little buddies that is for sure!

Until next post..

July 19

Posted in Birthday, Fynn, Jason, Sutton by

July 19 is a big day in our house.  It is Daddy’s birthday and the boys’ half birthday.  So, to start this post off right we will wish our daddy of the house HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!  What an incredible man I have!  Over the past 12 years I’ve always tried to make his birthday a big deal….I’ve thrown a few surprise parties and a BIG party for his 30th.  This year we didn’t do anything BIG but it was just as nice.  I baked him a cake.  Oh boy did it turn out beautiful.  This is when I wish I could create a “sarcasm” font.  It wasn’t pretty but it sure tasted good!  We had dinner at a local hibachi restaurant with the family and the boys entertained us the entire time of course.

Back to my man.  Jason is always showing me how much he loves me.  He had done so many simple, yet amazingly romantic things….made his very own Valentine’s Day card with a paper rose and all back in college, he had a custom poem written for me for our anniversary this year, he would pick me up from class with a rose just because, he has stopped in the middle of a random day just to slow dance and the list goes on.  Even better he has been an incredible father.  He never missed a feeding, even in the middle of the night when he would have to get up and go to school the next day.  He has never once mentioned any hint of a complaint at missing out on certain events because we have kids now.  And he is always so involved the minute he gets home from work.

He truly cares about his patients and is an awesome chiropractor.  He puts his heart and soul into his work and wants to be the best he can be because he wants to help people.

I do thank God every day for my man.

We love you Daddy!

Happy Birthday to my amazing man!

Until next post…

Twins

Posted in Fynn, Jason, Jordan, Sutton, Twins by

I love having twins.  I really do.  Even when they were not yet sleeping through the night (I was blessed with a very involved husband even at 3 am feedings) or during the time of bottles and spit-up, I have always loved having twins.

Growing up with an older brother I knew I wanted more than one child.  Now, seeing my TWO together brings so much joy to my heart!  When I lost my mom at 18 I was so thankful to have my brother, Uncle Jordan.  He is truly someone I can talk about anything with and the ONE person who remembers our mother like I do.  I pray nothing happens to my husband or I at an early age but if it were to happen I’m so thankful our boys have each other.

Watching them together is so fun!  They play and giggle and hug and kiss and dance together.  Yes, there are spats here and there but for the most part it’s love and fun.

It’s also kind of weird to never know what it is like to only have ONE child.  When people often ask us, “How do you do it?!”  We always reply, “We dont’ know anything ELSE!”  It’s weird but also kind of refreshing.  Never knowing what it’s like to only have one, I’ve always been aware of my attention being spread equally and making sure each boy knows how much I love him.  There are times when one will wake from a nap early and I sneak in to get him out of his crib for some one-on-one time before his brother wakes up.  But for the most part I am reminding myself DAILY to always treat them equally and acknowledge each as an individual for they are SO different!

It’s also fun having twins because you instantly bond with anyone who has multiples.  It is kind of like a secret code.  I’ve made so many new friends just by having twins….on Facebook, in the blog world and in real life.  And anytime anyone comes to me with questions about having twins I get so excited because I can pass on all the knowledge and wisdom that I was so lucky to receive.

Love my twins.

Until next post…..they will be 18 months tomorrow!!!

Shoes

Posted in Fynn, Shoes, Sutton by

We are those parents who never put shoes on our kids.  If we do, it is usually sandals since it is so HOT outside.  But, the boys’ feet have outgrown their sandals so this morning when we were getting ready for church I pulled out some Chucks we got them at the Converse outlet in Kansas City back in May.  They were so confused as to what was on their feet!  That was a BIG sign we need to start wearing shoes so they don’t fight it later.

When you have to buy TWO pair you tend to not want to buy many shoes.  I think we will sport our Chucks this week to get used to them.  I can’t take them to preschool in the fall without shoes!

Until next post…

Spoons!

Posted in Fynn, Jason, Mealtime, Sutton by

I have been putting off teaching the boys to eat with a spoon.  The only things they eat with a spoon are oatmeal and yogurt, both of which are super messy.  If you know me, you know I am a neat freak.  Yes, I admit it Jason.  He likes to point out that I am a neat freak, which he is not.  Today in the car he heard Fynn say, “dirty.”  Jason said he wasn’t surprised he learned that word from me.

The morning time is not my favorite time to have to clean up a big mess so I have avoided handing over the spoon.  Forks they understand and will use but spoons are an entirely new thing.  Well, this morning it was oatmeal for breakfast and Jason was feeding them with me so we handed the spoons over.  I have to say Fynn got it down fast and was great!  Sutton wanted to chew on the spoon the entire time because the poor kid is teething.  He did get some good bites in all on his own.  No big mess but we also kept an eye on their bowls so they couldn’t go crazy.  I will attempt this again!

He likes big bites!!

Sutton

He is so proud!

Stylin’

Before Pictures…..

Jesse’s little girl was helping cheer the boys up before the haircuts.

Hair is out of control!

Hair everywhere!!  Jesse over at Good Girl Gone Glad came over to cut the boys’ hair and it started out a tad rough.  The boys didn’t nap as long as usual and they were struggling to keep a happy face.  I had to hold Sutton while he had his buzz but Fynn was a champ and mostly sat in the chair all by himself.  We had planned on doing Mohawks but once we started it was becoming clear their hair was too thin and has many funny cowlicks to do a full-on Mohawk.  This style will be cute without being fixed but we can also throw some product in it and give it some STYLE!!!

Those are his REAL blue eyes!

We had the Backyardigans on and that distracted him for a bit.

He seems to like it.

So does Sutton.

There was hair everywhere mainly because of Fynn….did you see the before picture???  He must have lost a few pounds from his buzz.  Sutton was running around and getting in it before we could clean it up and he DID NOT like it all over his hands and feet.  Probably was a bit itchy.

Everyone always says they don’t like how haircuts make kids look so much older but I feel different now.  I remember their first haircuts in January right before their first birthday I was kind of sad after because they didn’t have that baby look to them anymore.  But, now they will be 18 months next week and they are acting so much older I think it fits them.

Yes, it is natural to experience sadness with each new day that passes and they become more adult and less baby BUT I also get excited about the future……I tear up with expectations thinking about their first day at school, their first sports game, their first time to ride a bike without training wheels, their first sleepover, their first EVERYTHING!  Yes we have passed the rolling over, the crawling, the walking and all the baby milestones but each new day gets MORE fun and they are MORE my buddies than my babies.

These two guys bring so much joy and fulfillment words won’t ever be able to describe.  Yes, time is going by so fast but the unknowns are still so exciting to look forward to with them.

Thank you Jesse for the haircuts!!  You and your family are such amazing people and I hope my kiddos turn out as awesome as yours…they were so cute today!

Until next post….

We Love Bathtime

Posted in Bathtime, Fynn, Kiki, Sutton by

Our boys have never fought taking a bath….since their first bath in our kitchen sink that Kiki gave them, they have always gotten excited when it’s time to get in the tub.  One time Fynn even hopped in all by himself with his diaper and t-shirt still on.

Fynn loves books even in the bath!

They love it when Daddy pours water from above!

They love storytime!

Backyard Fun

Posted in Fynn, Jason, Outside, Playtime, Sutton by

BoysIt is middle of July here and the temperatures will not go below 100 degrees!  It’s miserably HOT!  The boys cannot be outside for longer than 5 minutes without their cheeks turning maroon.

I haven’t been taking them out back during the week because it is so hot but last night after dinner the backyard was mostly shaded so we let them out to play and even get a little wet!

Fynn

Fynn cannot stand the grass on his hands!

SuttonThis is Sutton’s way of saying, “I’m ready to play in the water!”

Now we’re talking…

Nights like these are my favorite!  I love watching my boys enjoy the simple fun of water coming out of a hose….and the giggles are contagious!

Until next post…..HINT Mohawks are coming tomorrow…
