GO POKES!!!

Posted in OSU by

Yesterday was HUGE!  HUGE I TELL YOU!  The boys went to their FIRST Oklahoma State University Football game!  This university has so much special meaning to us since it is where I graduated from as well as where I met my husband.  I actually met him the very first day I got to Stillwater before school had started.   We didn’t actually begin dating until that October of 1999.  Each turn brought back so MANY memories and I really wanted to take the boys everywhere and photograph them.

But….

We have two toddler boys and two parents so not many free hands or free time.

We left for Stillwater right after lunch in hopes they would just nap on the way.  Sutton slept for a little bit, Fynn not so much.  I was worried they wouldn’t like the crowd, the loud noises, etc.  But they did GREAT!  Granted we were prepared with lots of snacks but they were fantastic!  Our friend gave us 4 seats and they were in the perfect location….back row of the section with a concrete wall behind us to lean against with enough space to put our bag behind us and out of the way.  They were also at the very end of the row…WHEW!!  BEST PART….we were in the SHADE! 🙂

I had planned in my mind to take the boys all over campus and take a bunch of pictures but toward the end of the 2nd quarter dark clouds came rolling in and we had to head to the car.  I did not want to get stuck in a downpour with the boys.

We did snap a few at the game and one lady was nice enough to take a picture for us but it was kind of funny because her husband was trying to get the boys attention so I was trying not to laugh.  Of course the boys did not cooperate for the picture but oh well.  It was hard to manage the two boys and take photos…always bums me out!

HERE COMES BULLET!!

Daddy was trying to teach them how to roll down the hill at Library Lawn…

I think they just got grass stains on their rears instead.

(See those clouds in the back? Yep we dodged the storm barely!)

He looks so little here!

I’m hoping we can take them back often and one day MAYBE when they are older and decide to go to OSU like both their parents did, we’ll show them these pictures.

A parent can only dream…

Until next post…

A-Z of ME

Posted in Mom by

A little bit about me on your Thursday! I saw this over at my friend Many’s blog, The Fabulous Baby Striblings and wanted to do it as well.
A. Age: 30 and it seems like 31 is coming faster this year! At least I married a man who will always be a little older than me. 🙂

B. Bed size: KING!  FINALLY!  I’m 6’1″ and my husband is 6’3″ and we have always had a queen until this year.  We finally have a bedroom big enough for a king.  I LOVE IT!

C. Chore that you hate: Cleaning toilets.  UGH!  I’m starting to hate doing the dishes because with four of us eating at home a lot, I feel like I’m always doing them!

D. Dogs: LOVE DOGS!  Total dog person but don’t have any right now.  We had a St. Bernard for 12 years who passed last November from lymphoma (we got her RIGHT after we started dating so she was our baby) and we had a toy yorkie but with all the changes (babies joining our family, moving to OK, moving into our house in OK, etc. she wasn’t getting any attention and was miserable so a friend has her.)  Once the boys can help take care of a pet we will probably get a goldendoodle.

E. Essential start to your day: Coffee.  HAVE TO HAVE IT!

F. Favorite color: Green to wear but love my Oklahoma State Cowboys so ORANGE POWER BABY!

G. Gold or Silver: Depends on the outfit. I’m loving gold more and more.  Working with Stella & Dot (see “My Shop” above) their gold jewelry is addicting!

H. Height: 6’1″. I’m tall:)

I. Instruments you play: hmmm, none really.  Almost took up piano when I was younger but considered the recorder my main focus at the time.  See how well that panned out for me.

J. Job title: Domestic-Bliss-Keeper at Schluter House, Chiropractic Assistant for about 10 hours a week and Stylist for Stella & Dot.

K. Kids: my two BOYS who were completely worth the wait, Fynn & Sutton born January 19, 2010.  Seriously still to this day so amazed I GET to be their mommy!

L. Live: Tulsa, OK in the heartland of America!

M. Mother’s name: Pam, see posts about Grammie Pammie who passed when I was 18.

N. Nicknames: The husband calls me “babe” and boys call me “mama” GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME! 🙂

O. Overnight hospital stays: when I was 17 and in a HORRIBLE highway car accident and when the boys were born

P. Pet peeves: when people aren’t nice.  Seriously though.  How hard is it to JUST BE NICE?!  When I’m in line at the store and I have a ton of stuff but the person behind me has only a few things, I let them go ahead of me.  When I’m driving and someone is trying to pull out in front of me but can’t because of traffic, I stop and let them go.  IT’S NOT THAT HARD PEOPLE!

Q. Quote from a movie: “I invented Post-Its.” 🙂

R. Right or left handed: Right!

S. Siblings: Older half-brother, Brad. My big brother Uncle Jordan is 18 months older and I have two sisters-in-law who I consider sisters, Jenny who is only a few months older than me and Janai who is 17, almost 18.

T. Time you wake up: MWF I get up and go to my gym classes at 5 but come back home and sleep until the boys wake up at about 8-9.  On Thursdays I have to wake up before them to get ready since I have to take them to MDO.

U. Underwear: VS

V. Vegetable you hate: Onions. Will make my husband cut his own for chili and tacos.

W. What makes you run late: REALLY? I have 20-month-old twins, what more of a reason do I need?

X. X-Rays you’ve had: teeth, body (from a car accident) and back and neck (chiropractor) and my knee since I’ve had 4 surgeries from the car accident.

Y. Yummy food that you make: I’ve never been good in the kitchen, that is the reason I married my husband but I can make a good red beans & rice or chili.

Z. Zoo animal: Monkeys!  LOVE MONKEYS!

Until next post…

Wordless Wednesday – Reflection

Posted in Wordless Wednesday by

We have a mirror we got as a wedding gift in 2003 from Pottery Barn that we LOVE but since we moved into our new house we can’t decide where to hang it.  Yes, we’ve been here since March and it has moved around from room to room to store and I hope one day it has a new home on a wall SOMEWHERE in this house.

Right now it’s in our guest room where we get LOTS of light.  The boys hardly ever go in this room but the other night they loved playing in there and seeing their reflection in the mirror.

I caught this picture of Fynn.

Sutton is obsessed with grabbing anything that looks like a phone and “talking”on it…the video monitor, the regular monitor we use when we go overnight somewhere, the remote, anything.

This picture cracks me up!

These two make me laugh every day!

Go check out all the other Wordless Wednesday posts at my friend Mandy’s blog…

PM Photo Challenge – September Favorite

Posted in Mom, Paper Mama by

Over at The Paper Mama is a weekly photo challenge, which I always tell myself to enter but then forget.  Not this week.

This week’s challenge is September Favorite and I already knew the set of photos I would choose from, the day we took the boys to the cemetery to see my mom, Grammie Pammie.

Since the boys were born I’ve tried to make an extra effort to keep my mom’s memory alive through photos and saying her name to the boys but it will never be enough.

I debated for a long time WHEN I would first take them to the cemetery but I couldn’t wait any longer.  It has been over 2 years since I had last been, which was to bury my grandpa, my mom’s dad.

It seems like the debate comes up often with people about cemeteries and what purpose it serves, which leads to the discussion of burial vs cremation.

Personally, I like having a special, quiet place to go “visit” my mother.  I know she is always with me and she isn’t really JUST there at the grave but having the headstone with her name and remembering the day I had to watch her casket be lowered into the ground will always have a comforting feeling to me.  After the cemetery service no one walked over the burial spot but me and my older brother.  The two of us stood there and watched the woman who raised us and was THE most influential family member in our lives be lowered into the ground.  Again, MOST people don’t care to see this but for me it was a sense of closure that she was really gone.  Throughout the last weeks of her life we were given false hope then it would be crushed and the roller coaster continued and toyed with our emotions.  This was the closure I needed to really believe she was REALLY gone and no hope was left.  I wrote my mom a letter and put it in her casket with a photo of she and I and I can still vaguely remember what I wrote in that letter.  The night before the funeral my step-dad came to me and informed me they would be closing the casket at the funeral home that evening.  The sense of urgency came over me that THAT would be my VERY LAST moment to see her body and to see the face of the woman I loved SO MUCH.  The face I looked up to for 18 years.  The face that I saw in the morning at the breakfast table, in the car on the way to school, to cheer me up when I was sad….the face that was the MOST IMPORTANT face to a daughter.  I rushed to write what I was feeling that night and grabbed the photo of us I kept in my room and hurried to get it there in time.

Most people I know don’t care to visit cemeteries or think of them as a place to “visit” their loved ones but it works for me.

My boys are only 20 months and of course they don’t understand anything about a cemetery or who this Grammie Pammie is right now but one day THEY WILL.

I often pray that my children will be old when they have to bury me, not 18.

Young children at a cemetery are not predictable so I came prepared.  We brought snacks so we could have a mini picnic.  The boys sat down in front of her stone and snacked on their raisins and did their usual babble but then they would point to her stone and babble with such intensity I like believe they were saying, “Hi Grammie Pammie!”

They then got up and walked around and Sutton leaned down and touched her stone.

Yes, I shed a few tears that afternoon but they were mixed tears.  Tears of obvious sadness.  Tears of happiness as I looked around and saw what an amazing family I had help create.  Tears of fear of raising children without my mom. Tears of hope for what my children will become.

Boys & Their Toys

Posted in Cousins, Fynn, Sutton by

Today we went to a car show with Kiki, Auntie Jenny and cousins Eric and Elliot.

There were TONS of people and some very fun, cool cars.  This was my favorite.

Fynn & Eric got to ride in the wagon and Eric kept wanting to sit with Fynn so he could see what was ahead.  So cute!

There was live music and the boys were dancing in the wagon.  Kiki was trying to get Fynn to do his signature move!

Love the smile on his face!

They had different bounce houses and one was PERFECT for the boys size!

I didn’t know if they would go in or not but once they were in and Daddy showed them what to do they were LOVING it!

Two seconds after I took this picture the girl got off and it flew back toward Sutton and he went flying back.

He laughed!  As did I. 🙂

Eric just wanted to push the wagon around.  This kid has always LOVED pushing stuff around…cars, lawnmovers, wagons, everything.

He wasn’t licking the bounce house he just always has his tongue out!

If the boys’ birthday was during warmer months I would definitely rent one of these for their party.

They LOVED it!

Baby Girl

Posted in Cousins, Playtime by

Yesterday I got to watch my 8 1/2 month old niece.  She is the youngest of the cousins and is the ONLY girl.  She is definitely going to be ONE TOUGH COOKIE!  That is FOR SURE!

She isn’t afraid to get in the middle of all the boys and she wants to jump and play with them SO BAD!

I bet she is walking within the next month.

She has the tiniest little feet….like her mommy. 🙂

If her feet were a LITTLE bigger I bet she’d be walking right now.

Fynn just LOVES her!  He loves to say “baby” and point to her and he is always smiling at her.

Here are some pictures from our little playdate.

She is so FUNNY!

It was so fun having a little girl around!

Until next post…

20 Month Old Boys

Posted in Fynn, Sutton, Updates by

No longer babies really….getting used to that slowly.  Yesterday my BOYS turned 20 months old!  Seriously.

Fynn

The older Fynn gets the more ornery he gets.  He is learning what “time out” is REAL fast.  But he is also so sweet and funny and loving!  He just gets wound up and thinks “no” is funny.  We’ll see how long that lasts.

Fynn is getting GRADUALLY better about food.  He has eaten meatloaf and chicken a few times now and likes oatmeal more often than not.  He will DEVOUR some eggs and toast.  Both boys LOVE fruit and lots of it!  And both boys aren’t fans of veggies.  But today at lunch Fynn didn’t pick out ALL his veggies from his mac’n cheese.  🙂  PROGRESS!  Sunday night we had pizza and he ate some of the chicken, spinach, artichoke pizza, which made me proud.  He loves organic beef hot dogs, chicken dogs and veggies dogs as well as sweet potato fries and veggie chips.  And last night it happened….the inevitable….the boys ate CHOCOLATE!  We got Papa Murphy’s Pizza and I got some chocolate chip cookie dough from there for dessert.  Daddy and I agreed to let them taste.  BOY DID THEY LOVE IT!!!  And I have to admit it was cute seeing the smeared chocolate all over their faces.  Fynn usually doesn’t like sweets.  Recently for Miranda’s birthday we had cake and ice cream and Fynn would have NOTHING to do with it.  And when we went to have cupcakes last month he wouldn’t TOUCH them!  But chocolate he likes!

Fynn is talking more and more since he started preschool.  Not the clearest yet but I can make out what he is trying to say.  He will say mama, dadda, quack quack, dog, baby, bubba, pwease, ball, bear, down, bye bye, book, nana (banana), cheese and a few others I just can’t remember.  He will try to say Wiggles because that is his favorite show.  I have an episode on the DVR I play to keep them entertained while I make them lunch most days.  He does love the word dadda and wants to call EVERYONE that name.

He loves books.  WANTS TO READ THEM ALL DAY.  Wait, I mean he will bring them to you for you to read to him.  Fynn is a wrestler all of a sudden.  He spent 45 minutes wrestling his brother last week and I got video to prove it!  Fynn likes to push the limits with Mommy and Daddy too.  When we are downstairs he likes to try and stand on the couch, which is a big NO NO!  He will also try to stand and run around our bed, also a NO NO.  Hence where “time out” has come into play.  He does understand “time out” and gets the SADDEST face!  But he is so sweet after his time is over and I know he is understanding the concept.

Also, this boy is a DANCER!  He will get really serious, point his fingers and do a little dance in a circle when he hears music he likes.  Fynn is a big kisser as well.  Anytime we are leaving a group of people he will go around and give everyone BIG kisses!  And he will also blow kisses.  When it comes to babies, he LOVES them.

Finally, he is doing so great at preschool!  He doesn’t cry and walks right in.  He eats his lunch and his teachers keep telling me how sweet and adorable the boys are….I’m sure they tell all the parents that.  He is struggling a bit to nap well but he will get the hang of it.  I’ve put their nap mats down here at home and he will go climb into his so I know he doesn’t mind the mat.

Sutton

Sutton’s favorite thing to do is dump a storage bin full of toys and then one-by-one place them back in the bin.  But he will take random toys and bring them to me or Daddy and say, “thank you.”  Anytime he hands anything to anyone he says, “thank you.”  It is really sweet.

Sutton has become the PICKY eater all of a sudden.  And he LOVES the word, “no.”  But he says “no” to everything!  I’ll ask him, “Sutton, want to go watch some cartoons?”  His reply, “no” followed by him going in to watch cartoons.  He loves bananas, oatmeal, sweet potato fries, veggie dogs, cinnamon toast, strawberries and veggie chips.  Both boys LOVE LOVE LOVE Odwalla bars and Cliff bars.  Those are “treats.”  The few times we have offered the boys sweets Sutton is the one who devours it!  Loves vanilla ice cream, cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies.  He gets that from his mama! 🙂  Both boys go through phases though of liking something and then not liking it a few days later.  Typical toddler I guess.  I just keep trying to give them things over and over and hoping they eventually just eat what I put in front of them.  We are definitely trying to do the “that’s dinner” concept and it’s hard at times but after a few minutes of fussing they will sometimes just EAT IT!

Sutton is speaking so much clearer since preschool started.  He will really try so hard to repeat everything we say it’s so cute!  He says nana (banana), ball, tank ew, no, uh oh, choo choo, dadda, mama, quack quack, bubba, cheese and his favorite is to say “bye bye” with the hand movement and then blow kisses!  He will do this to everyone….even at Target.  They both will!  LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

It’s getting so fun being able to direct them…..”let’s go brush our teeth” and “let’s go eat breakfast” and “let’s go upstairs” etc. are followed by that action.  They are becoming such little BOYS!  I love it and yet I hate it because I miss the days of sweet babies snuggled up with me napping!

Sutton loves to DANCE!  He will spin and spin and flail his arms about.  He is the child that will always stop what he is doing and make sure you see him.  That grin of his is UNDENIABLE!!!  He too loves books and really likes the picture/word books where we point out something and he has to say what it is.  Loves making the animal noises like his brother!

When I take the boys to preschool I have to put them in their wagon because I have to somehow manage to get TWO TODDLERS, two nap mats, two backpacks and two lunch boxes all inside a building FULL of parents and kids.  The first few days of preschool Sutton CRIED AND CRIED when I left but drop-offs are getting easier each week.  Today I let them carry their backpacks into the room so getting them from the wagon to the classroom wasn’t so bad.  Their teachers are SO sweet!

Both boys LOVE sports.  They love basketball and Fynn loves to throw the football and kick the soccer ball.  Makes mama proud!

Some Pictures Of Course….

Fynn loves to come from behind and pull Sutton down.
Sutton doesn’t seem to be too thrilled.

Here is the storage bin with Sutton putting his toys inside right after he DUMPED them ALL out!
Such a cutie!

Playing hoops together!  Love the brotherly playtime and Sutton even has the Michael Jordan tongue action DOWN!

Who wouldn’t love that grin!?

These are the moments I am so glad I have twins!  I’m so thankful they have each other.

My heart hurts with how much I love these guys.  I can’t get enough of them!

My buddies!!!

Today Aunt Jenny buzzed our hair for us!

Before Pictures

Sutton

And After Pictures

I’m trying to color MOM!

I’m trying to eat my FIRST CHOCOLATE MOM!

Yep, you read that right!  Daddy and I gave them their first chocolate in the form of chocolate chip cookies.

Let’s just say they LOVED IT!

They tried to steal Daddy’s cookie from him.

But, they were also wound up laughing so hard and Sutton was so sweet trying to share with his brother.

Melts my heart….just like the melted chocolate all over their faces!

What a wonderful weekend of doing absolutely nothing.

Now we have a lot of busy weekends.

Daddy is doing the Warrior Dash next Saturday.

Daddy will be an exhibitor at the fair.

We are taking the boys to their first OSU game.

Rue (one of mommy’s best friends) is visiting before moving to Germany.

Somewhere in there I need to figure out what to dress the boys as for Halloween.  Last year they were a bear and a monkey.

Hope everyone had a WONDERFUL weekend!

Until next post…

Cousins

Posted in Cousins, Fynn, Playtime, Sutton by

Today is game day – we are Oklahoma State fans all the way.  So we sport our orange on game days!

My sister-in-law and her kids along with my father-in-law came over for dinner tonight.

It’s so fun seeing all the kids play together!  Fynn is obsessed with his baby girl cousin.  He will point to her and say “baby” over and over and over.

Cousin Eric, Fynn and Baby Elli!

Elliot doesn’t look impressed!

Sutton was a SLEEPY boy

These two look like they just got caught doing something they shouldn’t.

Game is on LATE tonight…9:00 p.m.  This mama is drinking coffee to stay awake to watch.

I. AM.GETTING.OLD.
