Choo Choos & Oatmeal

We had some play time during breakfast this morning!  James and Percy decided to join us.
Have I mentioned how much fun I have with these two boys of mine?

Great way to start our day!
All smiles and giggles.

Choo Choo Trains

Posted in Outings by

Each June the Tulsa Garden Railroad Club puts on a wonderful tour of train sets.  It is so hard to describe how amazing they are with words so here are a few pictures from our visit last Saturday.

The boys have been every year since they were born and I hope to keep the tradition alive for the years to come.
Here was our visit last year.

We love our neighborhood pool for multiple reasons.  We get to use it but don’t have to worry about the upkeep and cleaning.  We don’t have to prepare it each spring for summer and don’t have to worry about closing it up for winter.  But the best part is it is AWESOME for kiddos!  One entire end of the pool is  a gradual ramp like the ocean and it only goes to 3 feet deep, making it perfect for our tall boys.

We want the boys to be comfortable with the water so we have been trying to take them as often as possible.  They get so excited and say, “I go swim in the water” over and over.  The only bad thing is it is closed Tuesday for maintenance.  We learned that one the hard way!  We got the boys all excited and dressed for their wagon ride to the pool and then as soon as we got out of our garage we realized it was closed.  That was not fun!  Major parent fail.

Our boys are complete opposites!  Sutton is carefree and adventurous while Fynn is much more reserved and timid.

It is going to be a great summer!

Today my loves…

Posted in Today by

Today marks 9 years I have been married to your daddy.  Nine years of marriage that have flown by too fast!

Daddy and I met the very first day I arrived at Oklahoma State University in August 1999…wow I feel old typing that!  We didn’t technically start dating until that October but I knew the night I met him, he was someone special.  We never exchanged numbers or anything but happened to run into each other at a party that October night.  I saw your dad across the group of people and we made eye contact.  A few minutes later he walked up to me and told me I was beautiful.  We spent the entire evening talking and laughing.  We went with some friends to Wal-mart (I know, romantic right?) and we played in the toy aisle forever!  I still have my Star Wars toy we bought that night.  We went to Whataburger and ate with friends and then watched the sun come up at the lake.  As our friends dropped me off I didn’t know if I would see him again.  I knew we were meant to be together so on my way to class that morning I left a note on his Jeep.  And the rest is history!

We were young and in love but we also spent a lot of time talking about things….politics, religion, family, kids, careers, etc.  We had SO much fun together!  Your daddy was not only my boyfriend at the time but he became my best friend.  I met your dad shortly after my mom passed away and he was such a gift from God and I believe put in my life at that time for a reason.  He truly helped me grieve my mother’s death and was such a pillar of strength for me.  For the first time in a long time I felt I had someone protecting me.

Over the past 12.5 years we have endured a lot of sad times as well as happy times.  We have experienced deaths….some so sudden the shock still stings and some not so sudden yet equally painful.  We have suffered a miscarriage as well as the trials of infertility.  We have celebrated mommy’s graduation from Oklahoma State University and Daddy’s graduation from Cleveland Chiropractic College.  Most importantly, we were abundantly blessed with your arrival.  We prayed for years for a baby and we got such an amazing double blessing.

Through all the ups and downs your daddy has been my strength and my comfort.  He loves me unconditionally.  He tells me I’m beautiful, stunning, awesome, incredible all the time.  He is truly the best Daddy!  You boys adore your daddy and rightfully so.  He is always bragging about you and telling everyone what new things you are learning and funny things you might be doing at the time.  He wrestles, takes you on your balance bikes, tickles you, teaches you new things and most of all he loves you with every ounce of his heart.  When I met your daddy I knew he would be the best father to our children!  I was right.

As I look back on 9 years of marriage I think about how I felt when I married your dad and how I thought I couldn’t love him more but I honestly fall more in love with him with each day that comes.  I pray for you boys to one day feel this way about your wives.  I pray you love unconditionally.  I pray you find yourself in relationships that allow you to be yourself, that allow you to grow and evolve, that make you enjoy life and that you find someone you fall deeper in love with over the days and years that pass.  I hope you look to your daddy on how to be a husband and father.  He is the best role model around!

So today my loves know that I love your daddy with all my heart.

Until next post…

Dreading August

Posted in Sutton by

Today we found out our sweet Sutton has a hernia.  This means surgery.  This means my baby will be “put under.”

I noticed something was off earlier this week but every time I tried to show Jason it would be gone.  Yesterday after his nap it was worse.  We ended up at Pediatric Urgent Care for a couple of hours to find out it was a hernia.  They then sent us to the ER for an ultrasound.  We were there for over 3 hours!  With a 2.5 year old….couldn’t eat dinner and was there way past his bedtime.  And at the end of our visit the doctor had no clear answer for us.  So, today we got to see an amazing pediatric urologist.  We were in and out literally in one hour!  Turns out it IS a hernia but he isn’t in any pain and won’t need surgery right away.

So, August I will have to watch my baby be put under and I’m not too excited about it.  I’m used to the bumps on the noggin, the bruises on the shins, the scrapes on the face, the bloody lip…I have twin boys and I am used to all that.  But, I didn’t think I would have to deal with this until they were older.

My poor boys are worn slick.
Sutton didn’t get to sleep until well after 11:00 p.m. last night and then they both woke up at 7:45 a.m., which is earlier than their normal time.  We then had to skip nap time for our appointment.
Tonight I left to grab some dinner.  I’m so exhausted I was not going to be cooking in the kitchen.
By the time I got home he was passed out on the couch.  Nothing was waking him up.

Here’s to some good rest!

Until next post…

Dear Fynn

Posted in Uncategorized by

You simply light up my life.
You have been SUCH an easy kiddo to raise.
You go with the flow for the most part.  You tend to get a little opinionated when picking out a movie to watch.
You are tender.  Soft-spoken most of the time.  Focused. Simply Sweet.

When you start running or even just walking fast you get your arm wound up and it might just be one of the cutest things we have ever seen.  Your daddy and I always give each other a little smirk when we see it coming.
You are OBSESSED with ALL sports.  You could shoot hoops (or bas-keet-ball), kick the soccer ball, throw the football, catch the football and even hit the baseball off the tee – ALL DAY LONG.
When you are doing any of the above you always look up to see if I am watching and I ALWAYS AM!  And each time you realize I am watching, your face lights up with such joy.

You have started talking SO MUCH more, it is a language I am still learning and I can now translate for others.
Day by day it gets a little clearer.
When you want me to come see something, you run up and grab my hand and say, “i comin.”

You still LOVE books.

Even if you see a book on a cartoon you shout, “BOOK!”

You are so concerned with your brother and won’t leave the house without him.  If you get your clothes changed first, you will say, “Bubba next.”

You ABSOLUTELY love to color and draw.  And you are really good.  You enjoy drawing shapes and telling me which one is a circle, a square, triangle, star and so on.

I see so many diverse aspects of your personality it amazes me each day.

You go to bed at night so easily, practically climbing into your crib.  You don’t really ever try to climb out.  When you wake in the morning or from your nap you quietly sit in your crib waiting for Bubba to wake up or for Mommy to come get you.

The only time you seem to get fussy lately is when we make you leave something fun or when I leave the room.  You have started a little separation anxiety, which we are trying to stop.

You are so inquisitive and always wanting to figure out HOW things work.  You love to count and have to always try and do the fingers to match the numbers.

I pray that you will always keep the sweet, gentle spirit you have now and I pray you carry on that character with your future wife and children.  I pray you will always want your mommy close by.  I know you will do something amazing with your life and I am so excited to find out what exactly that is.  Thank you for being my “little man” and I will love you forever and always.

and  then, she {snapped}

Memorial Weekend 2012

Posted in Holidays, Uncategorized by

Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend!  Our weekend was AWESOME!  Friday we took the boys and got a few pictures of them playing on a gravel road by our house, splurged with some ice cream and played so well together all day!  Aunt Kim, Grandpa and Uncle Tom came by with some new t-shirts for the boys as well as some homemade pickled beets for me.  Daddy and I got to snuggle up and watch We Bought a Zoo….HIGHLY recommend it, great movie!  Saturday we worked in the yard some more, cleaned, went to the store and played.  We have been enjoying our new patio furniture!

Sunday after church and brunch our good friends, Katie and Reid, came to visit with their 2-year-old son, Owen, and 4-month-old son, Boone.  We also invited two other families over for a big BBQ!

There were 9 kids and 8 adults.
We jumped and jumped…
Even Daddy jumped!
We had a fun new sprinkler!
Of course kids find the hose cart so fun!
Sutton did not like the grass sticking to his feet!
Katie is always sooo good with all the kiddos!

We grilled hot dogs and hamburgers and so much yummy food!
Spending some quality time with awesome people made my weekend perfect.
I loved being surrounded by old friends as well as new.

Penguin Suits

Posted in Twins, Uncategorized by

The boys were “page boys” in their first wedding last weekend!  The rehearsal was Friday evening and judging by how well that went I wasn’t too confident in their ability to walk down the aisle the next day.  I had been working on getting them to TRY on their tuxedos for weeks but they always ran and said, “NO mama!”  They hated them.  It was as if they KNEW it was an important outfit and they just wanted to make me worry.  Saturday after their nap and snack we slowly put the tuxedo on…along with daddy putting on his suit.  “See Daddy is putting on his slacks.”  “Daddy is putting on his shirt.” And so on.  We eventually got the slacks, shirts, socks, dress shoes, bow ties and vests on!  AND THEY LOOKED SOOOO STINKING CUTE!!!!!

We got to the church an hour early and they were able to have enough time to warm up to everyone, especially the flower girl….Hollie.  They fell in love with her! 🙂

But when it came time to put their boutonnieres on they weren’t having it!  That was a task!!!

Pretty sure Hollie helped with that!

By the time we were all getting in position to walk down the aisle the boys were loving all the ladies!

Their shoes did not come in half sizes so I had to order up…poor Sutton kept losing his shoe!  But, he would grab it and want it right back on his foot.
I wish I would have gotten some pictures of them actually walking down the aisle but I was at the front trying to make sure they came to me.  They walked down the aisle and right past me to Aunt Rue!  I was cracking up!  They didn’t want their roles to end.

Luckily the ceremony was short and we kept the boys quiet with snacks but we had to stay after for pictures and they actually posed with the bride (Aunt Rue’s sister) which wasn’t shocking because they are used to having a camera in their faces!

We took the boys to the reception for a little bit but they didn’t get to hang out very long….they were exhausted from all the excitement.

With our friends Aubrey and Camdyn
I think it is safe to say any tiny human in a tuxedo is about the cutest thing out there!  I am so proud of my babies!

The Bittersweet Holiday

Mother’s Day will always be bittersweet.  It’s a reminder of my mom not being here but it’s also a reminder of my two blessings.

This year we decided to do Mother’s Day weekend at the lake….there is a hammock, lots of open spaces, shoreline with lots of rocks, fishing, boating, vegging, sleeping….a great place to go relax.

It was a weekend of FIRSTS for our boys.

First kite flying experience…althought there wasn’t much wind so it didn’t last long.
First time fishing.

First boat ride.  Now this FIRST was super exciting!  Daddy is a COMPLETE BOAT person and has been wanting to take the boys for a ride since they were born.  Luckily, Fynn LOVED it.  Sutton loved the boat until it started going but eventually he calmed down and enjoyed the ride.

Sutton’s favorite part was honking the horn!
They could have played on this ramp ALL weekend.
Sutton and I went on our very own walk together.
I think it was hands down one of my all-time favorite moments with him.  He just grabbed my hand and we started walking and walking and walking.  He wanted to check out the different flowers, trees and run and play.  He also was a chatter box but with words that brought tears to my eyes…still does as I type this.  He would say, “mama, lub you” and “tank ew mama” and just look up with me and smile.  I didn’t want it to end!
I taught him to blow on the dandelions.
And it tickled!  He picked up some wild flowers at one point and said, “KIKI!”  So we delivered them to our Kiki.
We did some swinging with Kiki.
Played on the hammock.
Threw rocks of course…wouldn’t be a trip to the lake without that.
Bonded with Daddy.
More fishin with cousin Eric.
And made our FIRST s’mores.
Sutton’s interest was short – Thomas the Choo Choo was on inside and he was exhausted.  Fynn couldn’t decide if he liked it or not.  He knew he liked the graham cracker and the chocolate but the marshmallow was throwing him off.  He kept handing it to me for me to eat then would want it back.
In the end I think he liked it.
These two bring so much joy to such a difficult day for me.
Saying I’m thankful for them is the understatement of the century.

Until next post…
