Flashback Friday – ALMOST TWO?!!

Having children 3 weeks after Christmas makes life a little difficult.  I’m so focused on Thanksgiving then Christmas that their birthday just sneaks up on me so fast!

They will be two January 19….SERIOUSLY?  HOW?  Yes the first year FLEW by but MAN OH MAN this last year seems like I literally blinked and BAM two is here!

I look back at their first birthday and it is so shocking how much they have changed.  They say soooo many more words and even phrases.  They eat better!  They are so smart!

Last Christmas…

We took them to the mall and the woman working said we should not let them see Santa and just slowly back them into his lap and they will snap a photo.
It worked because two seconds after this was taken the boys realized something was up and freaked out.

This year we attempted once at Bass Pro in November…NOPE.  Fynn ran from Santa and Sutton screamed.  We attempted again last night with a friend’s dad dressed as Santa….NOPE.
Both boys ran.  Maybe next year.

So here we are….23 months.  I think this is where we start saying they are “2” or “2 1/2” no longer will we refer to their age in months.
That means they are really growing up.

Sutton is my sensitive child.  He is the boy who will pass toys out to everyone and loves to give kisses and hugs and snuggles.  He can also be highly emotional when tired but also SO happy.  He will still giggle from the gut and he has so many expressions I could sit and watch him all day and wonder what is going through his head.

He LOVES Mickey Mouse and Veggie Tales.  He loves books.  He will say so many things and repeat what you say…better be careful.
He loves to point to a body part and say what it is…nose, eye, ear, cheeks, knee, hair, etc.

He loves to eat with his fingers…even oatmeal, which makes for a messy breakfast.
He LOVES his Daddy and says, “Kiki” at least once a day.

He has started hating naps, which makes me nervous.  Some days he will go right to sleep and others he stands or sits in his crib and just talks to himself.
But when he does go to sleep he SLEEPS for at least 2 hours.

Fynn is ornery.  Yes he is without a doubt ornery.  But he is SOOO sweet and lovable as well.
His favorite saying is “where’d it go?!” while throwing his hands up in the air.
Fynn is a good eater and will use his spoon or fork, which mama likes.

Fynn always wins the “Good Sleeper Award.”  He can go to sleep and stay asleep for 2-3 hours easily at nap time.

He LOVES to jump on the trampoline, which carries over to his bed.  He will stand in his crib in the morning and jump up and down and say “jump jump jump” over and over waiting for mama to come get him.
He too LOVES his Daddy!!

He really loves Veggie Tales and the Wiggles.  Books are his favorite and he could sit and study them for hours.
Daddy taught him to throw the ball overhand so he loves to do that with any ball he can find.

He still has crazy hair but it makes him who he is and at least it is cute at this age.

They wake up about 8:00/8:30 and eat breakfast.  Some random days they will sleep until 8:45/9:00, which I like but it does mess up their nap, making it harder to get them to take a good one.
We usually play or go run errands after breakfast but on Tuesday and Thursday they go to preschool at the church at 9:30 until 2:30.
Lunch is around noon then a nap about 1:00.
Snack when they wake up and dinner at 7:00.
To bed at 8:30 or 8:00 if they didn’t nap well.

These two are the light of my life and I cannot BELIEVE they will be TWO!

Until next post…

Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Posted in Holidays, Uncategorized by

I’ve been slacking…yet again I say this…but we have just been busy enjoying this time of year.

I turned 31 on the 7th.  I went to a fun Christmas party for a bunch of ladies, which was fun since we got to hang out in our PJs.  I’ve had a few Stella & Dot trunk shows, which is nice to have the extra spending money for the holidays.  Jason has been working on the fence….SO CLOSE to being done.  In the midst of all that we have two awesome little boys keeping us entertained and busy.

Since 1999 I have DREADED the holidays.  Christmas of 1998 was 2 months TO THE DAY before my mom passed and we spent it on a Disney cruise and a trip to Florida with our entire family on my mom’s side.  It was a lot of fun but that was when my mom first got sick and missed a lot of the activities.  Since then, I’ve missed her SO much during the holidays.  She was the one who was in charge of it all…..cooking, decorating, wrapping, etc.

Our tradition was we would get to open ONE gift on Christmas Eve but the rest was for Christmas morning.  We’d sit around in our jammies, eating breakfast and opening gifts.  We tried different scenarios – go around and each open one gift at a time, each person opens all their gifts at once, etc.  Gifts would get mixed up – one year Jordan (my brother) got Mariah Carey and I got Red Hot Chili Peppers (today I can say I would MUCH rather RHCP!) and we would all laugh and enjoy the awesomeness that was that time together.

The year after my mom passed I met Jason and spent that first dreaded holiday season with his family.  At one point I had to step outside because the level of love, fun, excitement, joy and comfort was overwhelming.  In the last 12 years it has become my favorite time.

My in-laws have different traditions.  Christmas Eve we sit around and open all our gifts – going youngest to oldest.  I think one year we drew numbers to determine the order but that didn’t seem to last.  Every year we say “we are not buying gifts for everyone….let’s draw names.”  FAILS every year!  Last year we attempted to do JUST the babies and then play dirty santa but with good gifts and that was a lot of fun but did everyone end up buying everyone presents – YEP!

Last year was the boys’ first Christmas and it was also my first holiday season I looked forward to since 1998.  Having children has healed that part of me but not fully.  I don’t think it will ever be healed FULLY….just cured a bit with the grins I see when I walk in their room Christmas morning.

The boys bring so much joy to my holidays now.  Seeing everything for the first time through their eyes is truly one of the most amazing experiences one cannot even put into words.  Last Christmas they were not even one so it wasn’t much to them.  This year….totally different.  They LOVE Christmas lights and they love our tree as well.  We put all the non-breakable ornaments on the lower part of our tree this year and they haven’t managed to do any damage so that’s good.

Christmas morning is when we will do “Santa” gifts, which this year they are going to be coming downstairs to find their very own SLIDE for our house (which can be used outside as well as in our gameroom), a new workbench from Papa O and two of these:

Yes they have helmets with them!

Lights!

Posted in Holidays by

So the boys are LOVING Christmas lights!  They like to go look out our front window at the lights in our yard and neighborhood as well as the Christmas tree lights in the living room.  They will say, “lights!” over and over and over.  Auntie Nai Nai is home from LA so we all went to Rhema to see the beautiful Christmas light display they put on every year.  It was my first time but I’m sure we will make this an annual tradition from now on.

We tried to make the boys wear hats and gloves but Fynn was NOT a fan of either.

We managed to keep the hat on the remainder of our visit but the gloves didn’t last long at all.

We went and watched the ducks for a bit while we were waiting for the lights to come on.

Fynn still wasn’t sure about what we were doing and why he had this thing on his head.

This was right when the lights came on and Sutton got so excited he grabbed Kiki’s hand and took off.  He was having such a good time the entire evening…he would grab anyone’s hand he could find to run around and at one point he was running and stopped in his tracks to just DANCE AND DANCE to the Christmas music.

Christmas is just getting better and better each year with these two!

Fynn’s Hair

Posted in Fynn by

I’d like to show the blog world the difficult task we face as parents with Fynn’s hair!

From the front it isn’t TOO bad but you can see the little spike in the back…

…and the “feathering”….

Again, not TOO bad…

but wait…

I mean….SERIOUSLY!

And from this angle you can’t even appreciate the mullet we have going on in the back on the neckline.

Poor kid!

Guess we need to buzz it again.

Until next post…

Thanksgiving 2011

Posted in Holidays by

This was the boys’ 2nd Thanksgiving and it was so much more fun!  Jason’s uncle Kelly and his wife Anne came to visit from Kansas City and brought their yellow lab, Moose.  Sutton was IN LOVE!!

Sutton was so sweet with Moose and just got so giddy with excitement every time he saw Moose.  He would say his name and it sounded so cute!!  I would LOVE to get the boys a dog but it will be a year or two.

On Thanksgiving day the kiddos got to play while the ladies finalized the last touches for our amazing meal!

We got to go outside and run around, which was nice since it wasn’t too cold out.

Cousin Eric giving some love to Sutton!

Elliot was enjoying the pre-meal snack of leaves and grass so Sutton was kind enough to help her find more!

Cousin Eric & Sutton wanted to watch Jason cut the ham!

This year we got to put the boys at a little table instead of high chairs!

They did really good sitting and eating their food but Sutton did end up in Kiki’s lap getting fed and his

favorite was cranberry salad.

After that HUGE meal we took a quick walk around the block!

These three look like they are up to no good.

Walking with our Kiki.

Sutton loved it when Moose gave him kisses.

After our meal was cleaned up we all kind of laid around and then started the annual family tradition of

GAME NIGHT!

We can sit and play games until the wee morning hours but this year my sister-in-law, Jenny, and Jason’s Aunt Anne decided to

brave the crazies with the holiday shopping.

We started at Wal-Mart and I’m pretty sure people were making fun of us because we had NO CLUE what was going on.

We finally caught on and scored a few things but it wasn’t as awesome as I had hoped.

From there we went to Target only to find the line WAY too long for us to stand in the cold so we headed to

Toys R Us and WHOA is all I can say!  The line inside to check out was wrapped around the entire store and SO not worth standing in.

We THEN went back to Target to see if they had opened the doors only to find out they were only letting in

50 at a time, which again was not worth it to us.

To Kohl’s we went and we found some great deals but by that point we were ready for bed and not in the mood to stand in line.

Friday the three of us went back to Kohl’s and Target to score on some more great buys!

I got MOST of our gifts purchased and we got to enjoy some shopping without children! 🙂

While we shopped Jason and his dad put up our Christmas lights!

The boys were trying to “help” but they were basically just getting in the way.

Friday night we played the game of Things, which I highly recommend for ANY group of adults!

We were all laughing so hard I almost peed my pants.

Saturday I got to do a Stella & Dot trunk show for a dear friend’s mother, which was a lot of fun.

Great holiday and now we are ready for CHRISTMAS!!!
