20 Month Old Boys

Posted in Fynn, Sutton, Updates by

No longer babies really….getting used to that slowly.  Yesterday my BOYS turned 20 months old!  Seriously.

Fynn

The older Fynn gets the more ornery he gets.  He is learning what “time out” is REAL fast.  But he is also so sweet and funny and loving!  He just gets wound up and thinks “no” is funny.  We’ll see how long that lasts.

Fynn is getting GRADUALLY better about food.  He has eaten meatloaf and chicken a few times now and likes oatmeal more often than not.  He will DEVOUR some eggs and toast.  Both boys LOVE fruit and lots of it!  And both boys aren’t fans of veggies.  But today at lunch Fynn didn’t pick out ALL his veggies from his mac’n cheese.  🙂  PROGRESS!  Sunday night we had pizza and he ate some of the chicken, spinach, artichoke pizza, which made me proud.  He loves organic beef hot dogs, chicken dogs and veggies dogs as well as sweet potato fries and veggie chips.  And last night it happened….the inevitable….the boys ate CHOCOLATE!  We got Papa Murphy’s Pizza and I got some chocolate chip cookie dough from there for dessert.  Daddy and I agreed to let them taste.  BOY DID THEY LOVE IT!!!  And I have to admit it was cute seeing the smeared chocolate all over their faces.  Fynn usually doesn’t like sweets.  Recently for Miranda’s birthday we had cake and ice cream and Fynn would have NOTHING to do with it.  And when we went to have cupcakes last month he wouldn’t TOUCH them!  But chocolate he likes!

Fynn is talking more and more since he started preschool.  Not the clearest yet but I can make out what he is trying to say.  He will say mama, dadda, quack quack, dog, baby, bubba, pwease, ball, bear, down, bye bye, book, nana (banana), cheese and a few others I just can’t remember.  He will try to say Wiggles because that is his favorite show.  I have an episode on the DVR I play to keep them entertained while I make them lunch most days.  He does love the word dadda and wants to call EVERYONE that name.

He loves books.  WANTS TO READ THEM ALL DAY.  Wait, I mean he will bring them to you for you to read to him.  Fynn is a wrestler all of a sudden.  He spent 45 minutes wrestling his brother last week and I got video to prove it!  Fynn likes to push the limits with Mommy and Daddy too.  When we are downstairs he likes to try and stand on the couch, which is a big NO NO!  He will also try to stand and run around our bed, also a NO NO.  Hence where “time out” has come into play.  He does understand “time out” and gets the SADDEST face!  But he is so sweet after his time is over and I know he is understanding the concept.

Also, this boy is a DANCER!  He will get really serious, point his fingers and do a little dance in a circle when he hears music he likes.  Fynn is a big kisser as well.  Anytime we are leaving a group of people he will go around and give everyone BIG kisses!  And he will also blow kisses.  When it comes to babies, he LOVES them.

Finally, he is doing so great at preschool!  He doesn’t cry and walks right in.  He eats his lunch and his teachers keep telling me how sweet and adorable the boys are….I’m sure they tell all the parents that.  He is struggling a bit to nap well but he will get the hang of it.  I’ve put their nap mats down here at home and he will go climb into his so I know he doesn’t mind the mat.

Sutton

Sutton’s favorite thing to do is dump a storage bin full of toys and then one-by-one place them back in the bin.  But he will take random toys and bring them to me or Daddy and say, “thank you.”  Anytime he hands anything to anyone he says, “thank you.”  It is really sweet.

Sutton has become the PICKY eater all of a sudden.  And he LOVES the word, “no.”  But he says “no” to everything!  I’ll ask him, “Sutton, want to go watch some cartoons?”  His reply, “no” followed by him going in to watch cartoons.  He loves bananas, oatmeal, sweet potato fries, veggie dogs, cinnamon toast, strawberries and veggie chips.  Both boys LOVE LOVE LOVE Odwalla bars and Cliff bars.  Those are “treats.”  The few times we have offered the boys sweets Sutton is the one who devours it!  Loves vanilla ice cream, cupcakes and chocolate chip cookies.  He gets that from his mama! 🙂  Both boys go through phases though of liking something and then not liking it a few days later.  Typical toddler I guess.  I just keep trying to give them things over and over and hoping they eventually just eat what I put in front of them.  We are definitely trying to do the “that’s dinner” concept and it’s hard at times but after a few minutes of fussing they will sometimes just EAT IT!

Sutton is speaking so much clearer since preschool started.  He will really try so hard to repeat everything we say it’s so cute!  He says nana (banana), ball, tank ew, no, uh oh, choo choo, dadda, mama, quack quack, bubba, cheese and his favorite is to say “bye bye” with the hand movement and then blow kisses!  He will do this to everyone….even at Target.  They both will!  LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!!

It’s getting so fun being able to direct them…..”let’s go brush our teeth” and “let’s go eat breakfast” and “let’s go upstairs” etc. are followed by that action.  They are becoming such little BOYS!  I love it and yet I hate it because I miss the days of sweet babies snuggled up with me napping!

Sutton loves to DANCE!  He will spin and spin and flail his arms about.  He is the child that will always stop what he is doing and make sure you see him.  That grin of his is UNDENIABLE!!!  He too loves books and really likes the picture/word books where we point out something and he has to say what it is.  Loves making the animal noises like his brother!

When I take the boys to preschool I have to put them in their wagon because I have to somehow manage to get TWO TODDLERS, two nap mats, two backpacks and two lunch boxes all inside a building FULL of parents and kids.  The first few days of preschool Sutton CRIED AND CRIED when I left but drop-offs are getting easier each week.  Today I let them carry their backpacks into the room so getting them from the wagon to the classroom wasn’t so bad.  Their teachers are SO sweet!

Both boys LOVE sports.  They love basketball and Fynn loves to throw the football and kick the soccer ball.  Makes mama proud!

Some Pictures Of Course….

Fynn loves to come from behind and pull Sutton down.
Sutton doesn’t seem to be too thrilled.

Here is the storage bin with Sutton putting his toys inside right after he DUMPED them ALL out!
Such a cutie!

Playing hoops together!  Love the brotherly playtime and Sutton even has the Michael Jordan tongue action DOWN!

Who wouldn’t love that grin!?

These are the moments I am so glad I have twins!  I’m so thankful they have each other.

My heart hurts with how much I love these guys.  I can’t get enough of them!

My buddies!!!

Today Aunt Jenny buzzed our hair for us!

And After Pictures

I’m trying to color MOM!

I’m trying to eat my FIRST CHOCOLATE MOM!

Yep, you read that right!  Daddy and I gave them their first chocolate in the form of chocolate chip cookies.

Let’s just say they LOVED IT!

They tried to steal Daddy’s cookie from him.

But, they were also wound up laughing so hard and Sutton was so sweet trying to share with his brother.

Melts my heart….just like the melted chocolate all over their faces!

What a wonderful weekend of doing absolutely nothing.

Now we have a lot of busy weekends.

Daddy is doing the Warrior Dash next Saturday.

Daddy will be an exhibitor at the fair.

We are taking the boys to their first OSU game.

Rue (one of mommy’s best friends) is visiting before moving to Germany.

Somewhere in there I need to figure out what to dress the boys as for Halloween.  Last year they were a bear and a monkey.

Hope everyone had a WONDERFUL weekend!

Until next post…

Cousins

Posted in Cousins, Fynn, Playtime, Sutton by

Today is game day – we are Oklahoma State fans all the way.  So we sport our orange on game days!

My sister-in-law and her kids along with my father-in-law came over for dinner tonight.

It’s so fun seeing all the kids play together!  Fynn is obsessed with his baby girl cousin.  He will point to her and say “baby” over and over and over.

Cousin Eric, Fynn and Baby Elli!

Elliot doesn’t look impressed!

Sutton was a SLEEPY boy

These two look like they just got caught doing something they shouldn’t.

Game is on LATE tonight…9:00 p.m.  This mama is drinking coffee to stay awake to watch.

I. AM.GETTING.OLD.

Until next post…

9/11

9/11 is Jason’s cousin’s birthday as well as Grandparent’s Day this year.  We had a big family gathering at Grandma & Grandpa’s house for a cookout and then went to the park.

The house was covered with balloons, which the boys LOVED!.

Sutton & Pappy

Fynn & Bear hanging on the stairs.  His first “boo boo” skinned knee.

COUSINS

Cousin Miranda – Birthday Girl!!

Sutton & Grandma – Sutton seems excited about all the cake & ice cream!

We went to feed the ducks but I think they were full.  They wouldn’t come eat our bread.

Fynn enjoyed playing with the package more than anything.

Sutton yelling for the ducks.  He loves to say, “quack!”

No ducks.  🙁

We went to the playground instead and rode the slides.

Kiki would help get the boys up the stairs…

Daddy would help the boys get down the slide..

Then Pappy would catch us at the bottom…

These boys were all covered in dirt and their clothes became different colors.

We had to stop for a water break.

Onto the next park with Kiki

Cousin Eric coming down the slide

Sutton’s turn.  This child cannot sit up straight to come down a slide!

Fynn and his tongue!

Cousin Elliot just chilled in her stroller and cheered for the boys!  It was so cute, she would just CLAP and CLAP!

We had a great day!  Besides getting completely filthy and hot it was lots of fun and I’m certain all these kiddos slept well!

I think this is the best way to remember 9/11.  Enjoying quality time with family and reminding ourselves to be thankful for each minute together.

Until next post…

Grammie Pammie

Posted in Fynn, Sutton, Uncategorized by

We drove to my hometown today to visit my family.  Yes it is sad to say but most of my family is at one cemetery in a small Oklahoma town.  The last time I was there was when we buried my grandfather, my mom’s dad, in May 2009.  Two weeks after we buried him I found out I was pregnant.  Such bittersweet timing.

My grandmother was buried here in 1989 and my mom in 1999.  My stepdad’s parents and sister are also buried here.  I met his mother when I was 10 and she passed in 2007.  She was such a remarkable woman.  She was feisty and loved her professional sports!  My great-grandparents on my mother’s side are also buried here as well.  Like I said, lots of family here.

I’ve wanted to take the boys but wasn’t sure what age would be appropriate but for some reason it’s been tugging at my heart to go visit.

Right after my mom passed I used to go out there often and just sit by her grave and spend some quiet time with just she and I.  Some people don’t like the idea of graves and that the person is no longer there so it really doesn’t matter but for me, personally, it’s been the place I can go and feel somewhat “connected” to her.  I feel her with me most days but this is such a peaceful setting, it’s hard to stay away.

My mom’s name is Pamela or Pam as most knew her.  We call her Grammie Pammie.

*I can’t take credit for all these photos, some were taken by my husband.

I will bring the boys here often and we will always talk about Grammie Pammie.  It’s so devastating they will never truly know her.

My mom was my best friend and raising kids without her is the most difficult task I will ever face.

Until next post…

Labor Day Weekend Part II

Posted in Friends, Fynn, Playtime, Sutton, Twins by

More pics from Kiki & Pappy’s house!

The boys and their cousin, Eric, are exactly 12 weeks apart – TO THE DAY!

All three of them were wrestling like crazy this weekend.

Cousin Eric and Sutton wrestling!  So funny!

Saturday also marked the beginning of college football.  We are HUGE Oklahoma State University fans.  I graduated from there and Jason went there before chiropractic college.

We bleed ORANGE!!!

For the game on Saturday we went to the Darrows’ house to play with some friends.  It was ALL GIRLS.  We had a 9-month old, 2 1/2 year-old, 3 1/2 year-old twin girls and a 4 1/2 year-old.  Again, ALL GIRLS.

Sweet Avery going down the slide!

Baby Cam!

Sutton playing soccer

Going to guess and say this is Ava!?  LOL!  These twin girls look SO much alike to me!  They both have such gorgeous hair and they are so funny and sweet!

If that’s Ava then this one is of Addie.  🙂 LOL!

Aubrey is SUPER excited about something!  Must be our COWBOYS! 🙂

When it was time for dinner we had a big picnic on the floor and all the kids did so well!  Aside from Avery bonking her head REALLY hard on the table they did well.

OSU won, kids played and had a blast, all the mommies and daddies got to catch up and everyone had a great time!

Labor Day Weekend Part I

Posted in Fynn, Kiki, Playtime, Sutton by

We have had a BUSY Labor Day Weekend so far.

Friday we got to hang out at home and spend some quality time with Daddy!  The boys found Daddy’s hats and were having so much fun with them!

Saturday we got up and went to Kiki & Pappy’s house to play with our cousins and see our Aunt Anne and Uncle Kelly who are visiting from Kansas City.

All three of these boys LOVE the piano.

And Kiki recently purchased a slide…it’s the new favorite toy!

These boys could play on this slide ALL DAY LONG!!!

Part II will be next!  There may be three parts to this weekend post.  🙂

Until next post…

Labor Day Weekend

Posted in Fynn, Preschool, Sutton by

Yay for a holiday weekend!  We need a long weekend to recover from our first day of preschool.

The boys got report cards for their first day.

Fynn

Fynn had a good day, not wonderful and didn’t like the lunch I packed.  Picky eater!!  And we suffered the consequences of no nap for the rest of the day!

Sutton

Sutton had a tough day, loved his lunch (little piggie!) and also didn’t take a nap.  Thankfully he pooped at school and not at home. 🙂

When I went in to pick them up I took the wagon!  LIFE SAVER!  The halls are INSANE CHAOS!  Luckily both boys were ready and excited to go for a wagon ride to the car.

When I first saw them they had their mouse (Sutton) and bear (Fynn) and both boys had pacifiers in their mouths.  The teacher said they pulled them out in the morning to help soothe the boys but I am not a fan of letting them have their pacifiers all day.  They are 19.5 months and only get them in their cribs for nap and bedtime.  I understand it was maybe needed for first day anxiety but I won’t let this become a habit.

Fynn was sound asleep in his carseat before I could even pull out of the parking lot.  They were BEYOND exhausted!  I tried to lay them down for a late nap when we got home but Sutton wouldn’t sleep and Fynn only slept about 20 minutes.  Made for an AWESOME evening.  (Where is the sarcasm font when you need it?)

Overall I think they will grow to love it and hopefully grow to love napping on their nap mats.

I spent the day trying to figure out what to do.  I haven’t had free time like that in…well I can’t remember!  I’ve worked since college and up until just a few weeks before the boys were born.  Those few weeks of freedom at home before their birth was spent resting and trying to breath with two babies in my belly.

Within one hour of my freedom I had grocery shopped and was sitting at home staring at the wall trying to figure out what to do.  I kept listening for a baby monitor and trying to be quiet but kept realizing I didn’t have to do that.  I got the rest of the laundry done, vacuumed, cleaned up, worked on my Stella & Dot business, blogged, went to Akins and ate lunch.

I kept looking at the clock and then at their schedule thinking about what the boys were doing at that exact moment.  I texted my husband when they were outside and said, “The boys are outside playing right now.”  He texted back, “Did you drive by?”  Haaaa!  He would think that I would do something like that.  But nope no drive-by.

I was so excited to see them though and it made my time with them MUCH more important.  I just can’t wait for them to be able to explain to me what they did at school.

Their class is made up of 8 kids – 4 boys and 4 girls.  My twins and my nephew (who is 12 weeks older to the day) make up 3 out of the 4 boys.  There is another set of twins – boy/girl twins in the class.  It will be fun to see them make friends with their classmates.  Maybe they will get a girlfriend! 😉

Overall, tough day but SO worth it and I can REALLY get used to having that time.  They go two mornings a week but one morning I will go help out in my husband’s chiropractic office and the other I get ALL TO MYSELF!

It truly is MOTHER’S DAY OUT!

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend!

Until next post…

Embrace the Camera – Embracing Preschool

Today was a BIG day in our house….boys’ first day at preschool.  We enrolled them way back in the spring but even having all that time to prepare didn’t make today any easier.

I often think of everything I could get done if I had a few hours a week to myself – grocery shop without chaos, run into the post office, go to the gym at a normal hour instead of 5:30 a.m., etc.  But, today I am sitting around listening to SILENCE and missing my little buddies.

They were so excited this morning….running around and HYPER!  Getting a photo was difficult.

Thinking about this day, the Mamarazzi in me wanted to capture all the moments..

Heading to the car, getting out of the car, going inside the school, getting to our classroom, etc.

But nope.  UTTER CHAOS!

Fynn wanted his backpack on then didn’t want to stop for anything, had to get inside the building.

Sutton on the other hand was bit of a challenge to get him in. Thankfully Daddy got to join us but next week is scaring me already.

Might have to take the wagon.

I know they will LOVE going to preschool and I’m excited for them to learn all kinds of new things but it will be an adjustment.

Love my buddies!

Until next post…
